Do child tax credit back date money?
cheapsensorytoys
Hi, Having just done the Calculation of benefits on here and finding we may be almost £80 a week down in Child Tax Credits, which i did notify them of the change back in January whe we were award dla for our youngest son, but they sais when i followed it up on Saturday they didn't have down, though they did have the call registered on that date.

Will they back date the money, if they did owe us something?
If so how do they give you this, direct in to your bank along with normal money or by giro?

thank you for any answers.

xx

You can get backdated payments of child tax credits if it seems that you'd have got tax credits if you’d claimed earlier. In most cases, you can get up to three months' backdated payments. However, if you’re getting the disability element of Child Tax Credit or Working Tax Credit, you might be able to get more than three months' backdated payments.
So to answer your question yes you will get a backdated payment on child tax credits.
This is usually a nice lump sum for the element increase for the year if back dated to a previous financial year.
I actually think you might get around 3k backdated as they may back date last years element in full as they sometimes do. Smile
If you get the 3k donations by post Big Grin
Worse case scenerio is they will backdate to January but as far as im aware they just pay a disability premuim on the year so its all of it.
This back date and payment varies in some cases by giro although ive known it to be by BACS.

Thank you for that Daniel, I won't get excited just yet though. Have had my problems with those that pay us money before several times and some how we generally don't come out on top! lol!
Dodgy
Fingers crossed though parents, we have to win one eventually. Blush

There is no reason why they will not backdate your payment you are legally entitled to this backdated payment and i checked the HMRC guidance on backdated payment periods Smile
