DLA suspended while in hospital
cheapsensorytoys
Scott was in hospital for just over 2 months and his DLA wasn't paid this month. When i phoned to question it they told me it was suspended until they heard back from the hospital that he had been discharged.
Does anyone know how long this takes? and will it affect my carers allowance? things are a bit tight at the mo.

Hiya,

The official criteria is: a child under the age of 16 who is eligible for DLA stops receiving payments once they have spent 84 days (which may be linked rather than consecutive) in hospital or another medical setting.

So DLA should be reinstated when the child returns home. But he would have to be there for 12 weeks before they stop it, so unless they have linked it to a previous stay then they shouldn't have stopped it at all.

Hiya

I've taken this from the Disability Rights Handbook from last May and as far as I'm aware this hasn't been changed:

DLA care & mobility components stop for a child under 16 stop after 12 weeks/84 days in hospital.
You count the number of days in hospital from the day after admission to the day before you go home.
But if the child is readmitted to hospital within 28 days of a previous admission to hospital then the number of days during each hospital stay are added together and payment of DLA stops after a total of 84 days.
If you have a car through Motability that will continue to be paid while all other DLA stops.
Your Carer's Allowance stops when the DLA stops.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
