Thank you for the support Debs, I see you understand the difficulties. Daniel, As mummy of Matty says we have 5 sons and a 3 bedroom house (one of which is a box room.) We don't have a social worker or any other form of support worker etc, except for the assortment of people we have had to see at the childrens centre where our 2 sons are assessed. I will mention this all to them and see if i can get them on board to help by putting something supportive in writing. I have to ask if they will consider helping us obtain a blue badge already,so may as well see if they could help at all with this too. Would be such a huge deal if we could get that one etc room..... |

hiya i really hope you get the help you need have you thought about asking for a caf (common assesment framework) worker, just a idea to have someone support you, all the info of my son is written down with all his needs and my caf worker uses the information to try and find help for us, so far since having her shes got my son into a club and arranged the transport got him on a special needs activity weekend, shes also arranged the young carers for my other children, and listen to me moaning about everything and anything she also came with me to my last statement meeting at school as there has been a few problems lately, she also applied for a clothing grant for me though i did say i didnt want anything for myself yet i received £200 to spend in next as my son always grips onto my clothes so most get ruined, anyway what i was thinking was if you had someone like that on side they would be able to look into any organisations that could help you, anything is worth a try. take care

I was wondering if there were any loop holes in the current system as its bad to say but i was wondering if there any real hope of obtaining funding as i know the local councils can be a right pain in the backside when it comes to this sort of thing.
I took a look on the direct gov website and it highlights things they will help with and these included: A disabled facilities grant is a grant that you can get from your local authority for work that is essential to help a disabled person live an independent life. You can, for example, get a disabled facilities grant for the following things:- •making it easier to get in and out of your home, for example, by widening doors or providing ramps •making it easier to get to a living room, bedroom, toilet, bathroom or kitchen, for example, by putting in a stairlift, or providing a downstairs bathroom •making it easier or safer to get access to your garden •providing suitable bathroom or kitchen facilities •providing or improving a heating system •ensuring your safety, for example, by providing a specially adapted room in which it would be safe to leave you unattended, or by providing improved lighting for better visibility •helping you get around at home so you can care for someone who lives with you and needs care. So looking at the criteria i would imagine there is scope to obtain funding for the following criteria: •ensuring your safety, for example, by providing a specially adapted room in which it would be safe to leave you unattended, or by providing improved lighting for better visibility As it says by ensuring your safety,so i was wondering if there are grounds to seek funding by saying that room space is essential to protect there own health and that of siblings? Let me be throughly honest as i possibly can here i feel you have a right fight on your hands as it seems local councils are currently getting very tight on what they will and will not accept in terms of any adaptions. However i do feel given the right support and advice you have a glimmer of hope and i would suggest you speak with Shelter as they can assign you a case worker who will be able to work on your behalf as there are other things they could look at such as being homeless within a home because of the overcrowding. ![]() Our Irish members can also use our new website for Ireland which is |
