Child Tax credit taken away for families earning over 30k - the disabled also?

Very worried. We earn between us just over 30k, but we pay child care out of this and my wife doesn't get paid when she takes time off to care for our son, take him to appointments etc. Apparently any families earning over 30k a year will have child tax credits stopped. We have to visit Great Ormond Street from Nottingham every month and we have to pay costs getting down. How can this be justified? My family have needs far and above the requirements of most families. Many people here will be effected also. Does anyone know if there is any difference for families with disabled children or is it a total stoppage for families earning 30k or more? My son is severely autistic and doesn't eat or drink. This can't be right? |

I think the true facts are slightly more intricate and there has been some scare-mongering by the press and opposition MPs. From my understanding they are redesigning the 'sliding scale' that used to kick in at 50K but as far as I know this is still at the proposal stage and not happening until at least the autumn/winter to allow debate.
With the government's promises to protect the most vulnerable in our society I would be VERY surprised if they take money away from families on a low wage with disabled children, and unfortunately 30K is a low wage with the cost of living being so high! It may be an idea to look at the CPAG website and see what they have news-wise as they are also one of the first groups that government consult....... even with the birth of Frank Field's new team. |

From what i can read it will be a sliding scale at the 30k mark and cut off at 40k.
The tax allowance increase should make it a little better for the little you may lose if any. You say you earn just over 30k but dont get paid for appointments etc. Just wondering if hours could be reduced at all so your just under the 30k mark i.e £29999 ![]() There will be a way around this to ensure you dont lose out. ![]() Our Irish members can also use our new website for Ireland which is |

Im going to be well and truly screwed and not in a fun way. me and hubby both have reasonably good jobs,,, nurse and teacher, although we arent poor there is never any spare money left, dont know anyone who has. we earn over 50k between us, well on paper any way. wages are being frozen, have huge mortgage, just had seventh child.. need to go part time at work, they are being arsey about it. cant really afford to but no option really. little one has DS, just got DLA for her , got the increased tax credits so thought try and go to 2 1/2 days, although will lose lot of money her benefit and tax credits would cushion blow. dont know what to do now, how much will nursery fees be about for 2 1/2 days, really starting to panic and not due back till december. , so basically will have to cut my wages to half, find nursery fees, and lose the tax credits. I know lots of people are struggling and lots of people will think I shouldnt be moaning but it just feels so unfair, arrrrgggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I DON'T NEED YOUR ATTITUDE!!! I HAVE ONE OF MY OWN!!!

hi kinderegg
didnt you get increased child tax credits with your older sons?, dont forget that you money will be lower if you go part time and you should get help with nursery fee's which will make them cheaper if not you might be better looking at taking a break from work for a bit longer and claiming carers allowance alongside the child tax credits beginning to be glad we live in stoke where most jobs are min wage but rents and other things are cheaper to cover that but still get same amount of benefits
There comes a point in your life when you realize:Who matters,Who never did,Who won't anymore...And who always will.. So, don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it to your future. |
