hi , ive just got the letter about becoming my child's appointee , my son turns 16 on Monday .. anyway there coming to our house Friday , they asked how does your child react to strangers in the house due to his condition ( they phoned me Tuesday yesterday ) to arrange the home appointment .. ive said he will most likely run out of the room and run upstairs , i said he is the same with any stranger or any family member or family friend he has not seen for a long time .. anyway this letter that arrived this morning they are asking for loads of information 2 proofs of ID from me & my son Thomas .. they are also asking for banking details and savings details and any information on my sons condition .. the lady that we see at the Cheshire autism team ( CASADT ) she is on leave so cannot help , plus its quite short notice .. everything has to be completed and sorted before my son turns 16 .. im scared , not sure what to expect and why do they require so much information .. ive got thomas's autism diagnosis and his last special needs statement .. just not sure what to expect at all .. my question is , when they came to see you and your child when they were turning 16 did you have to supply so much information etc .. ? thankyou in advance .. |

hi
all they really need to see is whether thomas is able to look after his own money and if not everything will stay the same. they also check you are getting all the benefits you should be claiming as it differs if they dont stay on at school after 16. Thomas wont need a bank account unless he is able to look after his own money, we only got matt one when he claimed ema and that finishes soon so wont be applicable in your case. i wonder if they are asking for extra info because they think they wont even get to see Thomas but it wont make any difference as they can usually tell quite easily from diagnosis's and what you tell them. this is one meeting that i didnt feel nervous once he turned up, he didnt mind that matt ignored him totally lol and was really nice corinne There comes a point in your life when you realize:Who matters,Who never did,Who won't anymore...And who always will.. Hi , there was a second piece of paper that came with the main letter , it asked for the 2 pieces of ID and under that it said ( about savings ) and under that it said ( about health ) asking for doctors details and other people involved with Thomas .. But on the 1st letter it just asks for ID nothing else .. Plus the lady when she rang she only asked for 2 pieces of ID , she never mentioned anything about additional info .. I've typed out and printed off all the people that are involved with Thomas just incase .. Also it says what health conditions has he got , thought they would know all of that .. I've just said autism & learning disability .. Not sure if this 2nd piece of paper is added to everyones letter from the dwp people .. I'm just confused , probably get worried for nothing .. To much stress at the moment with choosing a school for Thomas and his new annual review of statement next month .. Thanks everyone for your help ..

i just told them autism, i dont have any official letters stating and they knew he was getting DLA and he had attended special school and was going to special needs f/e but from sounds of it you have enough to stress about without stressing about a meeting that is actually there to help you, they arent going to take anything away the very worst thing would be they think he is capable of looking after himself and his money would be paid into his account not yours but that isnt going to happen really so i would just relax about this meeting anyway

hi , sorry about the underlined typing on my last message , i replied on my ipod touch so it came up like that by accident ..
Thomas is getting stressed as well about them coming , but ive told him not to worry . He doesn't want to talk about it with his younger brother & sisters about .. he doesn't understand any of it , ive tried explaining and Thomas thinks i mean brushing teeth and getting dressed , things like that . but its not easy when he thinks taking care of your own affairs and Thomas thinks the complete opposite . Thomas will take one word out of any sentence and come up with something completely different , we have to be so careful how you explain things to him , because sometimes he can have melt downs and get very stressed .. Im hoping it all goes well .. Thomas would not know how to phone anyone up let alone fill in any application form or use a cash card in a cash machine .. or talk to anyone in a bank .. |
