Autism and iPad 2??
cheapsensorytoys
Hi, I do hope that someone has some advice, with the iPad 2 coming out on Friday we have been thinking of buying it for our little girl. She is 5yrs and does have some language but we are hoping that Prologue2go will improve her english as it's not her first language. I have seen another app which creates social stories-this would be perfect with every day life and while on holiday as she finds change hard to deal with. If someone is using them at the moment any advice and tips would be great and also want to know if it's worth the money? Thank you for any replies. X

matt has been using the software on an ipod touch for a while now, he seems to like the response he gets when he asks for things but problem we have is at nearly 18 he thinks people should understand what he is saying without the use of the ipod lol. if you already have an ipod you can just get the software and if its successful then get an ipad as you can put it on more than one device its only one computer that the software can be put on but if you have ipod iphone and an ipad it can be put on them all because all updating is done on the computer

Thanks for your reply Corinne, my only worry was with the ipod that the screen would be too small for Prologue2go, i think I read it somewhere! Visually she is very good and fine motor is average too. I think i will try out an ipod tomorrow with her and see if she can cope with it. Do you know of any good apps for Autism? Just dont want to spend a fortune on apps and then not using them.

there is one thats only about £10 that is very similar but doesnt have the speech so its more like a pecs app but you can put your own on but matt needed the speech as he had tried that one and got bored with it. i dont know name of it as teacher told me about it last year when i refused to pay for something that should have been supplied by speech and language team. actually thats a point, have you spoken to your daughters speech and language officer or o/t as they should be able to supply this. we were told that as the college had identified the need it was up to them to provide it which is crap but as he is nearly 18 by time we won the fight he would be an adult and they wouldnt have had to pay out anyway lol. also i think caudwells children help with things like this if you have someone who can apply on your daughters behalf as dont think you can apply yourself. its a funny thing because we were told by one place it was a recreational item and family fund said it was an educational item Confused
if you are after just the pecs on a screen daniels website has an ipad type that has them on i think

Ideally I want the speech as well as her English needs to improve, she has just started swimming lessons and because her first language is welsh she doesn't understand what they are saying- she also has poor understanding skills and that doesn't help the matter!! We have spoken to the S/T but because she has language (can speak a sentence) they would not be able to help!!!But her language is not always understandable and sometimes she will not reply or just give a word!!! I did ask Cerebra but they refused and if I try others we might have to wait months! I wish that our children just had what they deserved/needed without us having to fight for everything.
