hi castopher
you dont need to wait for an official diagnosis as dla goes on the extra amount of care that your child needs that his peers dont need, start to keep a diary for a few weeks so you get an idea of how long things take like does he need help dressing or bathing or the time he goes to bed and how long it takes to settle him, anything that you are doing for him that a child his age would normally be doing more independently. you can do the forms online if you dont want to wait till they are sent but if you do it that way and take a while to fill them in they wont back date it from time u start it whereas on a paper form its stamped with date of request
corinne

are you not claiming for you older son?
hmmm good point well my son's handle his ok

he has not had to be statemented or have we had any professional help for him he is gifted and talented way ahead about 2 terms ahead of his peers brains / results as in his test at school is equal of a 12 or 13 yeard old would have he is 10 , so i dont know whether i could even claim for him as we have not persued any help for him however he has thing in place at school his school recognize he has an Asburgere's problem ( My Wife Teaches There)
so she got him sorted out as my son being younger he is at a diferent school but again gifted and talented , hmm i dont know could i claim for him as well a bit lost , maybe worth a shot?
Obvioulsy it is different for each person but i have aspergers, and i get DLA for myself, so it all depends on his needs. You might as well try you wont loose anything and like Corinne said, you dont need a diagnosis to claim DLA. Good luck!
sorry castopher, i didnt mean if he can do those things not to apply i was trying to think of suggestions of things to put in the diary just so you can choose a typical day when it comes to filling in the forms as they are not fun to do. its been a while since matt was 8 so i was struggling to think of things that an average 8 yr old can do Blush
