Parents of disabled children-Special needs forum support group

We own our home, but are presently having to claiming benefits after my husband became unwell. We have 5 sons and 2 are ASD (our 10 and 3 year olds) they don't sleep very much and have regular night terrors which constantly disturb their brothers. The younger is very touch sensitive and aggresive and the both of them are typically self involved and domain protective etc...We have tried every option of moving all the boys around in bedrooms, but still have not been able to find a solution, so have our 3year old in with us for his and his brothers own safety and have to have our 10 year old in with one or the other of his other 3 brothers (meaning they get very little and constantly disturbed sleep!)

They both get high care dla,would it be worth our trying for a grant for building work to knock through the kitchen into the out building space to make it into a living kitchen, thus making the lounge a desperately needed bedroom/s for our Autistic son/s.

So just to confirm you have 5 sons and how many bedrooms?

I would speak to a social worker, I am sure you should get some help.

hiya i live in a three bedroom house and i want to turn the attic into a bedroom but apparently i have to wait for a occupational therapist appointment for them to give a ok for the work to be done, im a council tenent so i dont know if it would work the same for you, my son can be very violent and disruptive so my youngest who he shares with doesnt get a decent nights sleep and gets his toys broken, the only solution my caf worker has come up with while i wait for ot appt so far is putting a curtain rail round my sons bed and putting his bed in the corner of the room so my youngest can sneak in without touching his brothers bed or going near his bed and being seen i have my doubts it will work but willing to try anything, so i can understand you need the space, i think you should try applying as you do need the space and its in your familys best interest for each of them to have their own space for their own individual needs, never say never its worth applying and getting all your professionals on side for their supporting letters. take care
