Announcement

Families who have children and young people with special needs very often deal with similar life styles. We have all had concerns ranging from education, acess to services, respite and other issues directly related to their childrens needs. Parents of disabled children bring families together for friendship, to share information and to support one another.

The forum was created by parents who have children with special needs and is run by parents so we are all in this together. With us you will realise you are not alone

Parents of disabled children launched in October 2009 and we are growing day by day and are fastly becoming a major support resource for all

thankyou both. this was actually the first draft and ive now tweaked and pulled a little bit so its neater but its probably more from the heart because of being that first draft.
Its all come out of doing a keyworker training course where we are looking at getting across to ppl (often professionals) about what it feels like to me a parent of someone with special needs and we covered all these things. having 'been there done that' with my own children but also working with a great deal of parents i know what its like and wanted to get across to these ppl that we can be wonderful parents and cope very well but that we can lose sight of ourselves in the meantime.
the hardest thing for me personally is being able to rely on someone else, i DO NOT cry in public or find it easy at all to ask for help so i was just trying to get across how lost a parent can feel, especially if theyre an emotional cripple like me!! lol
i made up one final verse for it this morning:

People say my daughter's blessed,
To have me by her side,
But they only see the camouflage
When im breaking up inside.

xx

I Have wrote poems on and off for about 20 years it really helps to write things down sometimes, sorry you feel that way. But it's very good but maybe you should consider seeing a doctor if you continue to feel down, I know because i have books of them hidden away upstairs but it's feeling a lot can relate too in this kind of forum , well done continue to write it really helped me years ago get yourself a book to write them in , like I did they great to look back at and date the poems. I don't know whether there a section for poetry In this forum but maybe it's an idea sure there are lots of Mum's and Dad's who who like to share there thought's and feeling on paper can be very good for people or even a Competition for parent's and carer's would be a fun and Therapeuticdea. Just a thought .

Thanks good job

fantastic poem very talented. It is so true no one prepares you for a disabled child the rounds of hospital visits and everything elses that comes with it. sometimes i need a manual xx

Heart Mum to Abigail 8 & Matthew 4. Children with disabilities are like butterflies with a broken wing. They are just as beautiful as all others, but they need help to spread their wings.
